March 2020

We are now in March and just weeks away from starting our league campaigns, with the extensive wet conditions we have experienced throughout the winter the green committee have worked tirelessly to try and maintain the green and surrounds so as we can open up as soon as possible. The initial date of opening was to be Saturday 14th March however, this opening is now to be revised and will be announced soon, albeit the green should be open by the end of March hopefully.

With the delay in the opening of the green due to the weather we now have a works party scheduled for Saturday 14th March 9.00 a.m. to complete the remainder of the jobs we have been unable to achieve. ( All help would be gratefully appreciated ).

Sunday 22nd March 11.00 a.m. sees us compete in the World Club Championship at Spen Victoria Cricket & Bowling Club, Spen Lane, Gomersal, Cleckheaton BD19 4PJ,  against Yorkshire champions Pudsey. Should we be successful in beating Pudsey we then have to defeat either Lightwood Park from the Potteries or our Summit rivals The George from W&W to proceed to finals day at Spen on Sunday 19th April. Anyone interested in travelling on the day to support should contact either Dan Bodley, Kevin Hocknull or Bill Pitt to arrange transportation. https://www.bcgba.org.uk/worldcc/

I would like to thank Paul Evans for hosting several poker nights throughout the close season and all those who have also supported these evenings. Paul has hosted these evenings to help to generate additional funds for the bowls club and to keep us all in touch throughout the winter months, the nights have been very successful and now can boast friends and fellow bowlers from other clubs and counties who attend and have all enjoyed their nights with us at Willenhall Nordley. WELL DONE PAUL !

The club committee has now got a new Treasurer in Sara Clayton who has took over from the departing Steve Taylor who has other commitments to undertake. I would like to thank Steve for his time and effort over the last few years for his committed effort in this role and he leaves this role in a healthy position. Whilst Sara was already currently sitting on the bowls committee, she has kindly offered to fill this important position as Treasurer and she will receive the full support of the committee and I am sure the continued additional support of all the members. MANY THANKS STEVE AND SARA !

The Summit B team captaincy has also been filled and shall be shared between Mick Ledwidge and Mark Hall. WELL DONE MICK & MARK !

Please note that the club needs all members to play their part in the upkeep our club and its facilities and without the doers we would not have a club. So many thanks to all who contribute to help our club function for all to enjoy
