The Anaphylaxis Campaign is an organisation which raises awareness and the profile of this condition which can result in life threatening circumstances. This campaign helps in the research and caring for people with potential allergies and helps to minimise the risk of an anaphylactic shock.
Unfortunately in 2016 we lost one of our own, Ryan Hyde, who unfortunately suffered an anaphylactic shock; unknowingly brought on during a visit to the seaside. Tragically Ryan lost his life that day and left a young family devastated.
Since Ryan's untimely passing his mom, Claire Kelly ,has worked tirelessly with her family and friends to alert people of this condition and has teamed up with the Anaphylaxis Campaign and has raised thousands of pounds for the campaign and it's work. Willenhall Nordley B.C. has helped wherever possible to assist Claire and the campaign in raising necessary funds to assist in all the work needed to care for this condition. The monies we have helped to raise has come from collective efforts from the bowls club and all its members but also generous donations from individuals associated in and out of the club which has significantly helped to swell the funds that Claire and her family are striving to donate to this campaign.
Last year Willenhall Nordley hosted a Midlands junior merit to help in developing the game through the youngsters in an effort to also develop their talents. With this is mind we approached Ryan's mom Claire and asked if we could dedicate the title of the competition to the memory of Ryan by naming the competition after him, Claire welcomed this and agreed that the competition be called 'The Ryan Hyde Junior Competition'.
The competition went ahead in April 2018 and was a fantastic day supported by juniors from North Midlands, Warwick & Worcester, Shropshire and our home county of Staffordshire. The competition was won on the day by Shannon Kernick and the bowling was enjoyed by a great turn out. This competition will be held every year and also on the day funds are raised to help the Anaphylaxis Campaign.
The bowls club are proud to announce that our new club shirts are purchased through the campaign and sport their logo and also Ryan's name and memory are printed on the shirts.
We at Willenhall Nordley are proud to be associated with such a great cause and we are also proud to assist Claire and her family succeed in raising necessary funds towards this campaign and by keeping Ryan's memory alive.
